What, exactly, does a virtual Chief of Staff do?
A mix of many things - but there’s one constant main goal = to make your life easier!
My approach starts with a quick 1:1 needs assessment where we’ll talk through your current systems, structures, team dynamics, and time allocation. Based on the results of the needs assessment, I’ll present some recommendations for what my support could look like for you and your team.
This may include things such as:
Facilitating and managing leadership team spaces
Executive communications creation (e.g., slide decks for external or internal audiences, executive memos & ghostwriting)
Project management and roll-out of new initiatives or policies
Co-creating operational plans to align with longer-term strategic plans

Practically speaking, what does this look like? How will we work together? I will work as an embedded member of your team for the duration of our engagement. I’ll start off by getting to know you and the members of your team that I’ll be working with - and then build out a weekly schedule of support based on your needs. My engagement packages start at 40 hours/month or 10 hours/week of support. This time is usually divided between internal task support (creating communication or planning materials), 1:1 meetings, and facilitating and/or attending team meetings.
Can you step in and support me while my regular Chief of Staff (COS) is out on parental/medical leave? Yes! This is a role I’ve played at multiple organizations. This is not only beneficial to you, as the team lead, but also beneficial to your team as they’re not tasked with taking on extra work while a colleague is out on leave. *Minimum 3 month engagement required*
Will you manage my leadership team? No, I will not directly manage your team or team members. However, what I can do is lighten your leadership team load by facilitating team meeting spaces, creating agendas, sending out pre- and post-meeting communications, and problem-solving with you to navigate any tricky team dynamics.
We are getting ready to roll out a new system at my organization, can I hire you to support with a single initiative like this? Yes, absolutely! I’ve helped organizations manage the creation and roll-out of new systems. This could be anything from rolling out a new performance management system, changes in employee policy, shifts in team structure or reporting lines, or a multi-year turnaround plan.
How are you with creating executive communications? I’ll put it this way, sometimes it feels my title should be Chief of PowerPoint instead of Chief of Staff. That being said, I’ve created 100s and 100s of slide decks – board meeting presentations, Town Hall meetings, executive summaries, data analyses – you name it, I’ve created a deck for it. I’m a proficient ghostwriter as well and have experience crafting organizational and board written updates. I typically like to get a few writing samples of the executive I’m supporting to make sure my work stylistically aligns and we’re good to go.
Pricing and Packages
Virtual Chief of Staff support is available in packages starting at 10 hours/week. 3 month minimum required for engagements.
10 hours/week: $6,000/month
15 hours/week: $9,000/month
20 hours/week: $12,000/month
